Palladian Inspired Country House


Set in the exclusive Farmington neighborhood of Charlottesville, the house was completely designed by Stedman House. The Client and Designer worked closely together on furniture selection, incorporating the clients' art collection from years of travel abroad. The home also includes some unique wall finishes, including historical wallpapers. The Design Team selected European antiques to coordinate with the upholstered furniture in each room.

Living Room (above)
The home features French Travertine floors throughout the public areas. The Living Room is accented with wonderful antiques and a French stone fireplace. The ceiling height is an impressive 20 feet high. The room is used for entertaining as well as comfortable seating for conversation. There is an antique santos statue that the designer transformed into a lamp with a custom made suede shade.

Dining Room The focal point of the dining room is an antique embroidered valance from the Loire Valley in France. Under this window valance are full curtains made from silk embroidery. Fabrics from Fortuny were used on the Dining Room chairs.

Outdoor Family Room In appropriate weather, this space is used for entertaining and dining. The space opens to a walkway leading to the pool cabana. Indoor/ Outdoor fabrics were used on the upholstered furniture and dining chair pillows. Antique wooden sconces are on the wall to illuminate the space with soft light for entertaining. The Morrocan tile table top was selected by the client on a vacation. The teak furniture has arms that were inspired by Matisse's women. There is an antique Turkish door above the mantel.

Contemporary Asian Penthouse


Set in an urban neighborhood, the apartment has wonderful mountain as well as city views. Contemporary linen furniture was mixed with Asian antiques. The client also collected the Vietnamese rice bowl paintings.

The kitchen has modern cabinetry and black granite countertops as well as on the backsplash. The appliances are stainless steel. The flooring throughout the apartment is sustainable bamboo which the designer stained in a dark finish.

Foyer In the hallway, there is an antique coral mirror over an Asian chest. Other artwork includes hand colored coral prints. There are impressive custom mahogany doors and trim. The rug is a Bokhara.

Historial Neo-Georgian Home


This house was originally built at the turn of the 20th century near Ivy, Virginia. It features two large reception rooms at the front of the house which are used primarily for entertaining. The decor, in keeping with the age of the home, is traditional, but designed with some eclectic pops of color and contemporary art.

Living Room (above)
The Living Room features an original working fireplace and period mantlepiece. Custom built-in bookcases line the room to form a library and display of the owners' collections and pictures. The Living Room opens onto a covered cocktail terrace that was added onto the house in the 1930's. It is designed with a French country chandelier, outdoor furniture and architectural salvage lamps, perfect for entertaining year round, indoors and out! The owners' collection of French antiques including sconces, demilune tables and armchairs are used throughout this room.

Front Foyer Upon coming in the front door, guests see another original fireplace along with the period staircase that leads up to the bedrooms. The damask wallpaper is a modern interpretation of a traditional pattern. A center mahogany library table with an alabaster marble top holds books, flowers and occasionally serves as a champagne bar to welcome guests as they enter the home for celebrations.

Conservatory At the front of this stunning glass room is a mahogany and walnut inlaid dining table which seats 10 comfortably. The modern ikat rug is a showpiece in this area. At the rear of the room is the eclectic 'library' which is used for after dinner lounging in the English upholstered pieces. The ottoman is hair on hide and is a perfect place to put feet up.

Normandy Inspired Country House


The home is located in the prestigious Keswick Estates. The designer's inspiration was an English Country house setting. Fabrics included chintz as well as a custom wool wilton carpet. The window treatments are silk over the panoramic windows which overlook a golf course. The panoramic window has a seating area for conversation with comfortable armchairs. There are carefully selected antiques throughout the room.

Dining Room The dining room contains antiques mixed with Louis XVI painted dining chairs. Central to the room's decoration, is the Niermann Weeks gold and crystal chandelier. The rug is needlepoint from Stark.  Since the client owner is a master gardener, all views from the house overlook the garden.

Loggia European outdoor wicker furniture provide comfortable seating for lingering over an outdoor dinner with family and friends. The French doors from the kitchen open to this Loggia. There is a lovely large outdoor stone fireplace. A perfect location for cocktails al fresco.

Stedman House’s Living Room at the 2011 Shelter Design House


In the Living Room, the Designers were inspired by a classic English country interior with a contemporary earth friendly twist. The main room at Mint Springs Farms evokes traditional sophistication with inviting elements such as a down cushioned sofa and armchairs grounded by the sustainable sisal flooring. This livable scheme features antique furniture paired with transitional accessories. The natural color scheme is remincient of an orchard in the Spring - a fresh natural approach to a traditional interior.
